created some new cables with coated picture wire (35lb rated) and aluminium ferrules. Replaced both sides. We'll see how long this lasts.

Replacement cable failed due to inadequate material used. Purchased some aircraft cable from Greggs Distributors, re-made the cables, and re-installed. Much more tension is now applied.
